An Ordinary Person Transmogrifies Into A Coffin(???)
I wanted to take a week or so to digest Persona 4, and by 'digest Persona 4' I may mean 'read a vast, incredible, harrowing fic where Yosuke is trapped in an abusive relationship with the culprit' (
sympathy_crime, upsetting content of all stripes, I'm a couple of chapters from the end and it's honestly one of the best things I've ever read), but I'm now feeling more or less ready to tackle Persona 3 FES!
One of the few things I'd osmosed about the Persona series before venturing into it was 'people summon things by shooting themselves in the head?', so it'll be interesting to play the game that does, in fact, include that.
Given that this series includes a Yusuke and a Yosuke, it's tempting to name the protagonist Yasuke. Maybe not. I might call him Kosuke instead, to continue the 'one letter changed' pattern.
I was just thinking 'what should his family name be?' and then 'well, I went with Hiwatari for the Persona 5 protagonist; maybe he could be Kosuke Niwa, for another DN Angel-inspired name?' and then 'wait a second, wasn't Kosuke actually the name of Daisuke Niwa's father?' Fine. I'm playing as the dad of the DN Angel protagonist. That's what's happening now.
I went to the in-game loo and laughed aloud at 'You relieved yourself. Your condition has become "Great".'
Oh, here's Junpei! I'm very wary of this guy because he's often mentioned in the same breath as Yosuke and Ryuji, respectively my favourite and second favourite characters in the series. You've got very big shoes to fill, Junpei, and I'm not sure I like your hat.
Junpei... looks like he could be a younger Iwai, actually. Huh.
Akihiko, meanwhile, is clearly Draco Malfoy. I'm not falling for this.
Shuji's only just introduced himself and I already don't trust him.
I'll be honest: seeing this kid casually shoot himself in the head in the middle of battle is pretty unsettling.
The problem with going backwards through this series is that every game is slightly more inconvenient to play. The further back I go, the fewer opportunities I have to save. I realise the content of this journal may suggest otherwise, but I can't actually play videogames every hour of the day; please let me leave off when I need to!

I actually thought 'huh, I've only really talked about the male characters in this entry, I should mention that I like Yukari, she seems nice' and then 'THAT'S SUCH A BORING THING TO SAY'. I'll try to talk more about the ladies when I've had a little more time to get to know them!
Or, think of it this way: quite a few of your entries were actually dedicated to Teddie.
uuuuuuuuugh
me aggressively shoving all my Persona barbies in your face and demanding you rate each one of them on a scale of 1 to Jack Frost.
Here is my ranking of Persona party members I have met so far! (Persona 3 excluded, as I've only just started.) Numbers close to each other can probably switch around a bit depending on my mood, but first and last place are set in concrete.
1. Yosuke, best boy, friendly and insecure and compassionate and extremely in love with me; I love him in return. Given that it seems like he was probably originally intended to be a love interest, his homophobic comments and general horniness are genuinely interesting aspects of his character to me, rather than just being aggravating.
2. Ryuji, wildly energetic and also extremely in love with me, but loses out to Yosuke because his skirt-chasing ways are less interesting and sort of jarringly written into his character halfway through.
3. Joker! I'm impressed by how much personality he has, given that he doesn't really speak.
4. Makoto, trying to be the mature and practical and sensible one while also being slightly awkward and easily embarrassed, bless her.
5. Kanji, playing straight into my love of INCREDIBLY ANGRY teenagers with a good heart under it all.
6. Futaba, excellent awkward nerd who doesn't know how to be a person and keeps making atrocious jokes.
7. The Persona 4 protagonist is less interesting than Joker, but I still have a sort of fondness for him just from inhabiting him for so long.
8. Chie. I ended up liking Chie more than I expected to, I think; her voice acting put me off at first, but she's a fun, energetic kid who always means well.
9. Ann. She's such a steady friend and so refreshingly unselfconscious in some aspects.
10. Naoto, thoughtful and serious and really bad at feelings.
11. I like Yukiko, but I find her character sort of hard to pin down. Polite, a little socially oblivious, easily amused?
12. Character-wise, I'm not particularly fussed about Morgana, but he does get points just from being a cute cat who lives in my backpack and offers commentary.
13. Haru finds it such a novelty to have friends, which is adorable and agonising, but I think she came in too late to really establish a place in my heart.
14. I almost left Rise out of this list! I suppose forgetting she exists probably puts her somewhere around the lower middle. The way she artificially constructs her personality has interesting potential but is never really explored.
15. Yusuke's a weird disaster who doesn't know how to look after himself, which sounds more fun on paper than he turned out to be. I like him fine, but he doesn't really interest me.
16. Akechi sort of gets on my nerves but has the potential to be really interesting, so I'll be interested to see the content for him in Royal.
17. Go away, Teddie.
Looking at this list, I suppose it makes sense that I talk so much about the male characters; they make up both the characters I like most and the characters I like least, which I suppose I'd naturally have more to say about than the characters who fall somewhere in the middle. (Although there is a vast gulf between Akechi and Teddie here. My attitude to every single character is 'I love you' or 'I like you' or 'well, you're at least interesting', and then you hit Teddie.)

Anyway, thank you for making this list! It's very illuminating. ♥ I promise I didn't intend to give you Persona homework, it just kind of happened that way.
Also, I can't believe I did that.
