Everybody Was Haiku Writing.
I'm up to early December in Persona 3!
Aigis analysed Akihiko's runs and prepared a training regimen for him, and she's happy that he liked her suggestions enough to take them on board! That's very cute.
Mitsuru doesn't express doubt or guilt very often, but, when she does, Akihiko is always the first to reassure her.
The dates with Elizabeth are a delight and I wish there were more of them. I love her enthusiasm.
The dog thinks I'm hungry and gave me some of his own dog food! The best boy!
Akihiko talks about how he keeps himself motivated by pretending someone's watching him train, and I am absolutely certain he means Shinjiro.
If Akihiko doesn't canonically end up making himself ill by training non-stop in the wake of Shinjiro's death, I'm going to want fanfiction about it.
Can't believe we beat the final boss at the start of November and everything's going to be completely fine from now on.
SURPRISE, SHUJI WAS UNTRUSTWORTHY
I'll be honest: I wasn't expecting all of us to end up crucified.
'Do you think Ikutsuki-san really enjoyed the times we all spent together?' Fuuka asks, and I'm fascinated both by the question itself and by the fact that it's on her mind.
Akihiko's so worried about Mitsuru!
Akihiko defeated an enemy and said, 'Did you see that, Shinji?' and it was very bad for my heart.
Wait, we just left the kid and the dog alone in the dorm building for four days?
'Cheer up, Junpei.' AKIHIKO you're BAD AT THIS, his possibly-girlfriend died less than a week ago! WE CAN'T ALL REPRESS OUR GRIEF INTO NON-STOP OBSESSIVE TRAINING, AKIHIKO.
Our options now appear to be 'watch the end of the world approach' or 'murder a guy, which won't actually prevent the end of the world but will at least mean we forget it's coming'. Ryoji, if you're so concerned about us suffering with the knowledge that the world's about to end, did you consider not telling us about the end of the world? I'd understand if 'the world's ending' and 'hey, I've had a great idea, you should kill me' had come in different scenes, but Ryoji just went 'by the way, the world's ending, you should definitely kill me so you forget I just told you that'.
Incidentally: Ryoji? Yusuke, Yosuke, Kanji, Kenji, Ryuji and Ryoji? This series is just taking the piss now.

I don't think anybody in SEES knows how to look after eachother, let alone anybody else. Ken, of course, is so used to being alone that it doesn't occur to him that this is unacceptable. Also, extra dog walks. (If you think about it: who is actually overseeing Ken at this point, as an adult, presuming it was Ikutsuki?)

You might not have noticed but Ryoji's social skills suck. I blame Kosuke.

It's time for another round of: how are you feeling about the characters? Has your opinion on anybody changed?
I guess enough plot has gone by now that I can say that when I finished this game I wanted early SEES Mitsuru, Akihiko and Shinji fanfic. Since we know how what I want and what fandom wants are totally at odds, you can count on your fingers how many fics you can find about this. I did get one, actually, for Yuletide quite some years ago and it was very good!

I think this was actually after Ikutsuki's death (I just moved it before to put it outside the spoiler cut), so there was no adult involvement at all! Just a kid and a dog running around in a huge empty dorm building.
I wanted early SEES Mitsuru, Akihiko and Shinji fanfic. Since we know how what I want and what fandom wants are totally at odds, you can count on your fingers how many fics you can find about this.
I'm actually surprised to hear there isn't much fanfiction about this! It's a period with clear potential to explore.
I think I've now played enough to give the party members a TOTALLY OBJECTIVE RIONA RANKING, from top to bottom:
1. Akihiko. Adorable. Far kinder and stranger than I expected.
2. Yukari. She comes off as a normal, grounded person, and I appreciate that.
3. Koromaru. He's a very good boy and doesn't need to be anything else.
4. Shinjiro, who I wasn't expecting to care about but who really caught my interest. Guilt-ridden messes! My favourite!
5. Kosuke. I've got a sort of affection for how stupid he is. I find it very easy to choose dialogue options for him, because I've built up such a clear image of him in my head, which is a nice thing to have for a semi-silent protagonist.
6. Mitsuru. Focused and serious and enjoyably weird in some respects.
7. Fuuka. Sweet, but distractingly voice acted (sorry); it's especially striking in scenes with Aigis, where both of them sound a bit like robots.
8. Aigis. Came in a bit too late for me to get attached, I think, although she does have some good lines.
9. Junpei. He's fine, but he's not for me. I almost forgot he existed and left him off this list.
10. Ken. Again, he's fine, but he's not particularly interesting to me.
(This game has a lot of party members!)
I never got invested in Junpei's relationship with Chidori, but that might be in part because I was spoiled for the death of a character named Chidori before I actually met her, so she introduced herself and I went, 'Oh, okay, best not to get attached.'

Persona 2 has Tatsuya and Maya (see what they did there), Eikichi, Lisa Silverman, Jun, Yukino, Baofu, Kei Nanjo, and Ellie Kirishima. Is it reflective of the aggressively similar naming conventions of later games? You tell me!

(EDIT: On further consideration, that must be what you meant; I got confused because I accidentally read 'difficult' as 'emotionally difficult'! It seems strange that this is an area where the later games display worse game design.)
