The Acting Is Even Worse Than I Remember. I Love It.
So everyone's (or at least my) favourite terrible school drama, Waterloo Road, is back! The first episode of Series Eight wasn't one of its best, but I have to give it credit for compressing an entire series of Waterloo Road into a single hour.
Seriously, it had
- death (well, a death that happened some time ago, but we learnt about it in this episode)
- false drug-related accusations
- secretly homeless pupils
- incredibly unhealthy relationships
- fire
- pregnancy
- theft
- Tom manhandling a fighty pupil
- attempted murder
- someone getting arrested
- someone being hospitalised
- a threat to the future of the school
- the implied beginnings of a love triangle
- alcoholism
and probably other things I'm forgetting. Throw in 'teacher accused of inappropriate conduct with a pupil' and 'schizophrenia' and you've got every Waterloo Road plot ever in one episode.
On the incredibly excellent side, it looks like there's a good chance Josh and Tariq may form a friendship! This is all I want. On the less positive side, Josh has cut his lovely hair too short again. I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT, JOSH.
Halfway through the episode, I found I couldn't stop envisioning a Dangan Ronpa scenario set in Waterloo Road. It could actually work really well. Would it just be the pupils, or would teachers and pupils alike be at the mercy of Monobear and each other?
Er, perhaps I need to stop crossing Waterloo Road over with things in which teenagers murder each other.
(Speaking of my tendency to cross things over all over the place: a while ago, my brother brought up my My Little Pony/Merlin crossover and implied that there was rampant sex in it.
'There was no sex in that crossover!' I objected. 'It was entirely innocent!'
He stared at me. 'What are you talking about? I was just making that up to make fun of you - you've actually written a crossover between My Little Pony and Merlin?'
And of course I had. Whoops.)

You are wonderful, fantastic person. And I sort of love/am amazed at the fact that your family is aware of your fanfiction writings.

And, oh lord, Dangan Rompa ;~~~; That series just sort of broke my heart far too much this past episode.
I KNOW. Dangan Ronpa is so distressing. Although it was great to see Togami's meltdown.
when I saw Josh and Tariq continually being in scenes together, I thought "Riona's gonna love this!". ...Is that sad of me?
I don't know about 'sad', but it's certainly accurate. BE IN ALL THE SCENES TOGETHER, GUYS. Well, all right, Josh can have a few scenes alone with Tom. But BE IN MOST OF THE SCENES TOGETHER.
I don't know exactly what Tariq's situation is, but certainly his behaviour seems to imply it's expected to be a permanent or at least a long-term thing. Come to think of it, I think physical disability is one of the very few Big Issues Waterloo Road hasn't really tackled yet. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled.
(Hey, they should do a storyline where Finn and Trudi show up to say hi to their respective friend/brother and are deeply perplexed about this friendship that will totally happen.)
This would be an excellent storyline and I demand it.
Also, I am amused that there seemed to be less Scottish accents than there have been in previous series, despite the school now being in Scotland. xD
Ha, very true! Was I imagining it or did Jade have a Rochdale-esque accent despite not having come up with the school?
I'm very glad you stopped playing to comment, because I always love hearing what you two have to say! But you'd better help Heather, because I don't imagine she's in a great situation right now.

I believe myself and
But now that I have caught up with Waterloo Road, I can safely say a few things:
1. Chalky + Janeece. I KNEW this would happen
and now I'm not sure whether to be happy or worried that they'll do something stupid, like rob a bank; Waterloo Road is well known for breaking people's hearts!2. Poor Rose - first Sam, and now Denzil :( I half expect her to have some sort of vedetta against Waterloo Road for some reason
3. Rhiannon is a closeted lesbian with a massive lesbian crush on Scout, and is in total denial about it. It's so obvious
or maybe I'm reading into things too much; she's just like Quinn with her massive crush on Rachel... again, it's possible I'm reading into things too much.4. the implied beginnings of a love triangle
Personally, I believe it's a love pentagon with Scout, Phoenix, Connor, the Mysterious-girl-who-got-lines-and-looked-like-Emily, and Rhiannon
5.
6. Janeece was totally on the ball with Drew when she, and myself, said, "He doesn't look like he's 17". Oh Janeece XD
7. Tariq & Josh need more screen time together - they would make the best friends, if Tariq would stop being stubborn, and let Josh actually be his friend.
... This is all I could remember. I made a list of thoughts about the episode, but, until I saw Grantly, I kept saying 'Oh lord, he's dead now, isn't he? D:' But then he wasn't, and I was... Happy?

2. I know! The first thing I said on learning about Denzil was 'God, the poor Kelly family.' A third Kelly child is in prison because of Waterloo Road-related events, too. (Although I suppose what happened to Sam wasn't anything to do with the school.)
3. I'm wary of such interpretations purely because Emily was never revealed to have a massive lesbian crush on Scott, and she so did. The massivest. I've never been so astounded by one character's failure to kiss another.
4. I was actually thinking about the possible Grantly love triangle (which I really didn't see coming); good catch on the love polygon!
5. If the Waterloo Road house doesn't catch fire before the series is out, I know nothing about Waterloo Road.
6. Hee, I love Janeece. I like to think that Drew posing as a student was Waterloo Road making fun of itself by casting clearly non-school-age actors to play pupils.
7. I agree with everything about this. Stop pushing Tariq's wheelchair without his permission, though, Josh; that's very rude. Even if you're trying to stop him from picking a fight. Also be friends forever.
Rei thought Grantly would be dead as well! I was slightly surprised by how distressed I was by the thought and how pleased I was to see him. I hope this series explores his friendship with Harley more.

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about his new drinking buddy
although I really hope he doesn't end up having an affair with her! D: And, now that I think about it, Michael will probably get his Scottish pulling powerbecause, clearly, this is something he can pull out of his blazer pocketout in full effect with Sian and the other lady (the benefactor to the school who clearly wants to create a Hunger Games type situation with this design contest - I mean, seriously? Offering a bunch of teenagers £5,000? That's always going to lead to good things(!)or I could be very cynical)I'll be honest, when I first read your list
although I didn't mention it earlier because I've literally only just remembered because I'm clever, I thought I read that there were hintings of a possible teacher/student affair, so, when I was watching Waterloo Road, I was looking out for where this relationship was, and I thought it was happening with Sian and Tariq at the beginning. To say I felt distressed would be accurate.Rei is worried that she might be using him for his money, though
... I really hope this isn't the case; I would be heartbroken if Janeece did this.
I'm wary of such interpretations purely because Emily was never revealed to have a massive lesbian crush on Scout
I should be more weary of this because I adored the idea of Emily and her being terribly In Denial. But I have to wonder why Rhiannon seems to despise Scout so much; I mean, gouging out the eyes in the picture of Scout's brother... That's a whole new level of harsh. Maybe I'm wrong, though; maybe Rhiannon is a sociopath who really likes her own personal space?
And yes! More Grantley and Harley friendship times! Along with Josh and Tariq! And Josh and Tom.

Someone has uploaded the ending of the last series; you may be interested in watching the first four minutes of that video, which contain quite a lot of Josh and Finn being really, really cute.

Waterloo Road/My Little Pony would probably lack murdering.

This is true! And I've actually thought about it before (possibly not to anyone's surprise); have a couple of relevant conversations.
