It Turns Out The Writers Don't Hate Me After All.
Episode 7.25 of Waterloo Road just aired, and Grantly Budgen you are not supposed to make me cry. That's not how it's supposed to work!
But it's all right, because the second-to-last scene of that episode was THE BEST SCENE IN THE HISTORY OF WATERLOO ROAD. QUITE POSSIBLY IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION.
I was ecstatic. No, seriously, I leapt into the air and made a noise so high-pitched I startled my cat. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR SIXTY-FIVE EPISODES. THERE WERE POINTS WHEN I THOUGHT IT MIGHT NEVER COME, BUT FINALLY IT DID.
Long-time endurers of my Waterloo Road ramblings may have worked out by this point that Tom Clarkson has finally hugged his son.
AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS SO SATISFYING. IT WAS AS IF THE WRITERS CAME ACROSS ALL MY WEEPING ABOUT THEIR FAILURE TO HUG AND WENT 'LET'S MAKE UP FOR ALL OF RIONA'S FRUSTRATION BY GIVING HER THE BEST HUG POSSIBLE.' EVERY SO OFTEN I HAVE TO STOP TYPING THIS JUST SO I CAN SKIP AROUND THE ROOM IN DELIGHT. I KNOW I'M RIDICULOUS. I DON'T CARE. THIS IS GREAT.
Also I still love Tariq a bit. BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE JOSH AND TOM HUGGED. I genuinely don't think I've ever been so delighted by an event in a work of fiction before.
The scene in question starts at the 54.20 mark on the iPlayer, in case anyone else is as weirdly invested in this fictional filial relationship as me. I know nobody else is that weirdly invested, but humour me. On the plus side for you guys, at least you won't have to put up with any more 'WHY DON'T THEY JUST HUG' entries.
Hearts hearts hearts. I love you, Waterloo Road, despite all your many, many (many, many) flaws. I'm so glad you love me too.

Oh that hug~ It was much needed after the rowing and the arguments and the dope taking. I also love the little friendship between Budgens and the kid. It's sweet~ I just love the idea that they're bonding over books. CHARACTERS READING BOOKS AND INNOCENT MENTORING FRIENDSHIPS MAKE ME HAPPY, IDK.

The Josh-Tom hug was so much needed and so very satisfying that I'm still smiling about it a couple of days later. Such a good hug! I was beginning to think that I'd wanted this hug for so long that no actual hug could live up to my requirements, but I was wrong. It was even better than I was hoping for.

They seriously need to hug MORE. I had no great expectations going into the hug other than it would happen, and it was wonderful. I feel that Nicki (the new teacher) is on our side, and is battling to get them to hug more. At least, I think she was watching them hug from the window. I could be wrong. So, hopefully, there will be at least one more hug before Josh leaves school for good.

Also a bit strange. But mostly wonderful.

(I was also saddened by how short the preview was on Josh! Still, after four episodes in a row where Josh had a significant role (and after that hug ♥) I suppose I shouldn't be greedy.
I'm glad the possibility of Josh accidentally taking too many pills in his ignorance of his condition didn't occur to me, because I would have been fretting all episode otherwise. Still, I like to think that, despite his past poor decision-making, he's sensible enough to read the 'take this many and no more, no seriously' text on the box.)

I was mostly having a Tariq-based flail for the whole episode but the hug was awesome too :D

(It was also completely adorable when he kissed Emily on the cheek.)

Also what was that I saw something on twitter about Finn getting someone pregnant? (It wasn't Josh was it? *sniggers*)

Only joking; of course it wasn't Josh.
It was Tom.(Finn doesn't actually know yet that he's got
Tomsomeone pregnant, so don't mention it too loudly.)
