Granted, at the time I read the first book I was used to oddly pronounced names you have to guess (eg. Irvine from FF8! Me and a fellow gaming geek had a debate about how to pronounce his name for like half an hour at the library celebration at our high school).
I can understand Harry having a low opinion of Muggles - he hasn't grown up among nice people, and then the wizards are suddenly nice to him... it makes sense he'd pick up a prejudice, though it's hypocritical of him (and the books in general) to pretend this isn't there and treat others saying anti-Muggle things as rude.
